Whitewater 201

Comfort Zones Are Overrated
WW201 is our intermediate whitewater kayaking course for students who have completed WW101 or have equivalent experience. Over four weeks, paddlers sharpen technique, build more reliable recovery skills, and gain confidence handling more dynamic moving water on the Lower Saluda River in Columbia, South Carolina.
Running concurrently with WW101, the course places paddlers back into familiar river environments with increased expectations, more challenging scenarios, and a stronger emphasis on consistency under pressure. Students spend more time refining bracing, rolling, river movement, and decision-making while becoming increasingly comfortable with instability, missed lines, and unexpected flips.
Designed around a supportive, challenge-by-choice approach to learning, WW201 encourages paddlers to push their comfort zones while developing the composure, adaptability, and confidence needed to paddle more intentionally and independently.

Who Is The Class For?
WW201 is designed for paddlers who already have a solid foundation in basic whitewater skills and are ready to become more confident, consistent, and independent on the river. Most students enter the course after completing WW101 or with equivalent paddling experience.
The course is a good fit for paddlers looking to refine technique, improve decision-making in current, and become more comfortable on more dynamic moving water. Students should be prepared to challenge themselves, spend more time applying skills in real river environments, and continue building both technical ability and river awareness.
WW201 is built for paddlers who are ready to move beyond simply getting down the river and begin understanding how to paddle it with greater control, intention, and confidence.

What to Expect

Expect to be challenged in new ways. WW201 is designed to push paddlers beyond the basics and into situations that require greater confidence, adaptability, and composure. You will spend more time in dynamic current, work on more demanding skills, and be encouraged to operate outside your comfort zone.
Expect repetition. Many of the skills introduced in WW101 are revisited in WW201, but with higher expectations and more challenging applications. Bracing, ferrying, rolling, and river movement become more reliable through practice, feedback, and repetition.
Expect to spend time upside down. Flipping over is a normal part of learning and progression. WW201 helps paddlers become more comfortable with instability, develop stronger recovery skills, and build confidence when things do not go according to plan.
Expect to laugh, learn, and occasionally get humbled. Progress is rarely linear, and everyone has good days and bad days on the river. The goal is not perfection. The goal is becoming a more capable, confident, and adaptable paddler.
